Praia do Forte is a kind of nature conservation village that has saved millions of sea turtles. There is also a great beach that you can lay on and get cheap drinks. Ahh, beaches. Ahh, drinks. |
Tasha, Audrey and Gretchen went to John MacDonald Park near Carnation with me to roll around in the hills and see the trees. It was pretty and springy. |
Matt Tripp, Tasha and I went sledding and then hiking around the Iron Creek Trail. Mass hysteria and wet pants all around. |
Tasha and I drove around out in the mountains and finally found a nice little trailhead called Iron Creek near Alpental in the Snoqualmie pass. |
On my way back from Ann Arbor I stopped in the Badlands in South Dakota. |
I shot a series of photographs while hiking through Carkeek park with my Dad. We hiked a bit over a mile in and then back out, eating a sandwich midway. |
A short hike Ethan and I went on following the North Fork of the Walla Walla river. |
Tasha and I took her Mom to the Hoh River Rainforest during the last official Mom visit. I shot a couple rolls with my N90 and these are the resulting film scans. |
The photos leading up to and at an Alki beach excursion. |
My friend Aaron came to visit, after which Ethan and I went on a long hike in the Snoqualmie basin. We lunched on a tree sticking off a cliff and then hiked back. |
For a long while, off and on, I was seeing a girl named Sandi who lived in Sequim. Just west of Sequim is a small sandbar, lighthouse and town named Dungeoness. Theres a great deal of beauty to be found! |
This is my first shoot with my Olympus D600L which was stolen when Tasha and I were robbed in 2000. There are various photographs of Joemma State Park and the ferry ride home. |
A series of film photographs taken in August (I think) of 1996. The film is quite damaged; I can't imagine what these people at the lab were thinking. It looks like the fixer was horrible. |
I printed some miscellaneous negatives in the darkroom which Jamie and I rebuilt last week. The pictures are all from a hike I did near a small mining town in the Cascade mountains in late 1998 except the dragonfly, which was shot in the Caymans. All in all it was a successful venture, and I have to say that although I am a bit slow (not used to the layout of the room yet) its the best home darkroom I have had. |

A couple shots from the night we went and had dinner at the "Mexican" restaraunt in Salvador. |
This is the host family Tasha stayed with. They were very nice and patient with my extremely limited knowledge of Spanish and even more limited knowledge of Portuguese. |
We had a bunch of friends over for some DDR fun. |
This is a gallery of our new house in State College, Pennsylvania! It's getting almost home-like for us, so the time for pictures was ripe. |
Tasha, Audrey, Matt and I went to the conservatory in Chicago for some fun with plants and dinosaur bones. Bony! |
Had a BBQ at Tasha's Mom's house to visit with family and catch up with friends. |
Visited my mom to deliver Deryk's birthday present and enjoy some time with my brothers/family. We got him a little lap coloring table with a wipeboard and paper clips. For fun we also gave Christopher a grow new parents kit. |
Tasha and I missed Deryk's birthday bash so we went over and did some fun stuff with the boys a couple days later. These are some shots I took while trying to show my mom how to use her camera! |
Jenna moved to Ann Arbor -- here is some photographs of her house from my brief stop there while dropping her off. |
The New House is mostly done -- here's some pictures from it! |
This is some preliminary shots of the new house we're moving to in Ballard! |
Christopher's seventh birthday party bash! Painting, pirates and treasure hunts. Quite the treat! |
The gang + Matt met up at the Vogue for some gothariffic dance party. Some early photos from the CB party earlier. Rock on! |
Marcus' daughter, Alex, had a birthday party at a bowling alley. |
It was time to clean and rearrange our office a bit, and I have just recently purchased Kam's old desk from him as he had to move away very suddenly-like. |
These are pictures from Jenna's twentyfourth birthday party. We surprised her at her house; she thought that her party was the next day! Tricky us (mostly Heather and Craig). |
Kam is moving back to Chicago after living here (with us) for two years. We celebrated by having drinks at the Bad Juju and then going to the Vogue for dancing. |
This is what my grandfather's house looks like after the remodel is completed. Much nicer! |
This was Deryk James Harlan's second birthday. He's such a maniac; he barely stopped moving for the camera. |
Lunch with Mom and Deryk. He looks damn cute at the end when he had his little tantrum. |
I got to spend some time downtown just hanging out with my dad today! |
I got a new bass today! Caloo Calay! |
Matt, Jamie, Tasha, Jenna and I at a vegan pizza place. A decent workout of the new camera under low/flourescent light. |
The house we lived on in Capitol Hill from February of 2001 thru February of 2002. It wasnt the best house but the people in it ruled, and thats what matters! |
Photographs from my surprise birthday party in 2001. None of the victims are innocent in any way, and are subject to harsh punishment.
This was a really special party, mainly because my grandfather attended and this was the last one he got to be at. There also hadn't been a party on my birthday in many years because I'm not the party animal that I get cracked up to be. |

This series of photos was taken at Tasha's graduation/going away/end of the year party. |

Some photos of Tasha and I at a park, right before we went to birthing classes. |
Some friends and I happened upon a set of either abandoned or farm kittens (probably abandoned) in a little ramshackle shack in a graveyard that had 200ish year old graves in it. Needless to say the kittens were saved thanks to someone's Grandma who took them in. |
Shot some photographs of thumbs the cat, who is in a roundabout way related to us. He has an extra thumb! Cool! |
Photographs of Tasha with a couple students who participated in her Panajachel book project. |
Tonight Tasha gave Tzeitl (our sevenish year old black cat) a bath. Not for the weak of heart. |
Tonight we had dinner again with Jamie and Jen, and Kaleb was pretty grumpy but cute nontheless! Some more photos... |
My friends Jamie and Jen had their firstborn on November 25th. This is the first photo shoot I've gotten to do with them! |
Hioshi hanging out at Dan's place at 7 AM or so. |
We had supper at the Golden grandparent's house. |
Tasha's Dad had us over for dinner, and we played pinball. |
Tasha's Mom moved. This is her new house (and her new cat, Soot). |
My little brothers Christopher and Deryk walked to the park with Tasha, Mom and I. Damn these kids are cute. |
I came home today and Z (Tzeitl) was laying in a patch of sun under the entryway skylight. She kept saying 'pet me' in a sort of take pictures kind of way. You'll note the cat is dusty. Need to take a duster to her. |
I walked around taking picture of Jamie and Jen's dog Moby. She's not even or just barely a year old, and can't stop moving. |
Some pictures of Tasha's (much shorter) hair. I think its beautiful! |
Photos of Jenna and I |
Some photographs of my friend Jenny, to try out the new camera I bought for Tasha. |
I was asked to create some promotional literature for a local NFP dance troupe. They set me a date I could come see them and photograph them, unfortunately at a location where they performed in a pagoda where they were surrounded by a black grate and I couldnt be at eye level with them. |
This is another trip to the park with my little brother Christopher. He is three in these pictures. |
Photographs of Tasha, Betsy and her graduation party aftermath. |
This is a two-day spread out of shots, spanning from my apartment in downtown seattle to Tasha's graduation in Normal, Illinois and ending with the majority of the pictures taken in Tasha's upstairs apartment of Betsy. I was feeling sprockety and did the series of Betsy from atop a skateboard, so as can be imagined the motion jitter was intentional. |
My dear friend Sammy left his dog (Cawfee) at my house a few times when he was working. One of those times I took a series of photos to surprise Sam. |
My little brother freaking out in front of the camera. He's very cute. |
My best friend Ethan and his friend Nate came and met me on the peninsula and we spent the sunset on Joemma Beach. |

Our friends' band Joyful Sorrow (or Joyfull Sorrow if you make paper signs) played at Schubas in Chicago. Tons of photographs happened. |
We saw a band called Sunflower Sutra tonight at the Blue Moon pub (there was even a fight). Tasha's coworker was in the band. |
Some photographs of Daniel Johnston at Bumbershoot 2001. Daniel is one of my favorites with his honest music. |

Driving back from Ann Arbor after dropping Jenna off. |
The driving trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan where I dropped my little sister off. |
Tasha and I spent a few days in Victoria, Canada to celebrate our three year anniversary. |
I snapped some shots on the way to the hike on the Walla Walla river. |
I decided to drive home a day early and came across an accident on Hwy 520. The road was not lit enough to get a picture of the accident but I got some shots of the pretty lights! |
I took a bunch of photos from the car, rest stop and gas station on the way east through the pass. |
One of the (eleven) rolls of film I shot while on my 300ish mile Kayaking trip in 2001. I need to get a negative washer set up so the dust specks go away. |
A few scanned images from Taxco, Mexico in 2000 when Tasha and I spent 22 days there. We only spent 15 of them in Taxco, but it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been in my life. |
Farther along on our trip north, we drove up the Oregon coast and headed east just past Eugene. I've always found that to be some of the most compelling coastline I've spent time on. |
We took highway 101 northbound past the Redwoods and stopped a few times to shoot some photos. |
Just north of Redding, before Crescent City and the Redwoods and all that, we stopped and detoured along an old mountain highway. Along the way we decided to do a quick afternoon/evening shoot before driving off into the night. |
We stopped at the edge of the great salt flats by salt lake city, and watched the sun set over the horizon. That night I continued driving all the way out to redding and we stopped and slept on the ocean. |
This series of photos is from the first day of our long drive west. We drove Tasha's old beat-up Ford Tempo across the country to move her out here. |

Tasha's host sister Emene took us on another mid city adventure through Pelourinho. We visited a museum that was a super old catholic building with a hospital, school and orphanage all inside. |
Emene (Tasha's host sister) took us on a walk through lower Salvador. The city is split up into lower and higher parts, and a giant elevator goes from the top to the bottom. |
These shots are of an old abandoned cheese factory and a leather factory in central Pennsylvania. The cheese factory is of note because, as previous linked article mentions, it is where individually wrapped cheese slices were invented. Nifty! |
Although marred by the bashing that took place the night after, 2004 Pride parade was full of beautiful people. |
Looking for ways to describe nostalgia photographically, I shot a couple mansios and old pinballs on Capitol Hill. |
Wandering around gasworks trying to become inspired with a subject that seems "nostalgic" for a themed series. It was also fun playing with the bracketing and black and white multimetered modes on the camera; I finally feel comfortable with it in fully manual. |
Some shots of the Ballard sprawl. |
A shoot around and in the basement apartment I lived in during the 2000 year. The district of Seattle I lived in was called Cascadia. |
A shoot of nature and city stuff walking around Lake Union in June with Tasha. |
This is a shoot Tasha and I went on around downtown Seattle and Myrtle Edwards park at dusk. I love dusk shots. |
When I lived by Lake Union, I would often walk around the lake looking for things to photograph. Heres one such run. |
This is the first photo shoot I went on with Tasha, two days after I met her. It was great fun. I fell in love. I highly reccomend trying it (but pick another girl, please). |

A quick walk around the area our hotel was in. |
Tasha and I walked from her host families apartment to our hotel, which took about an hour. |
There was an old train bridge that crossed a river and abruptly ended shortly thereafter. Here are some shots of playing on and around said structure. |
This old abandoned house was behind a few trees but otherwise visible from the road. |
Wandered around Manhattan with Jon, Tasha and Gretchen at various times. Good soup! |
Tasha and I took a refreshing trip to Harrisburg, PA. This is the home of the National Civil War Museum, where we spent the majority of our time. |
Tasha and I walked around our neighborhood on a day it wasn't pouring rain on our faces. |
For our four year anniversary we went to downtown Seattle to see the underground tour at Pioneer Square (Tasha has never been!). Unfortunately their web site has not accurate info as to tour times so we just wandered around and had a good time. |
Wandering around Clinton, Illinois is a journey indeed. |
Went to Ivars with pops, and saw the tourists. |
Lorien, Geoff and I wandered around the Gasworks park shipyards and boat inlets and shot photos of stuff. |
Tasha's friend Audrey came to visit us in Seattle for a couple days, and we spent the last evening at the International District (Panama Tea House), having sushi at Mori (my second time that day.. yay!) and riding the ferry to Bainbridge and back. It was a fun time. |
I took a wander around Lincoln Park (on the NW corner of Alki Point) with my Dad today. |
A cold spring day, wandering through Greenwood with Geoff. |
I wandered around Belltown after having some drinks with friends at an irish pub. Also featured, a bit of Capitol hill. |
Tasha wanted to visit an environmentally friendly shoe companies store in the mall. What a scary place! |
A test shoot with my new Aiptek DV2 camera. |
This is the first full set of photographs scanned with the film scanner. It is a set of negatives shot across three trips. I went camping with my friend Ethan, then came home and went Hiking with Tasha and Matt Lentz, and finally ended up on my great grandmothers property for her funeral. It was a very busy time. |
A set of photos along the Bull Run Lake hike. |
